Now in our twenty-third year of operation, the Graham Road UM Child Care Center opened in 1990. Our maximum enrollment is 40 students: ten in the two year-old class, fourteen in the three year-old class, and sixteen in the four year-old class. Our center is open Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. We employ three teachers and four instructional aides. Our child to teacher ratio is: two year-olds - 5:1; three year-olds - 7:1; and four year-olds - 8:1.
We serve breakfast, lunch, and snack. Our lunches are provided to us by the Fairfax Food Servicers & Caterers and are delivered to us daily. The children nap in the afternoon after lunch. When the weather permits, each class goes outside twice a day. We have two playgrounds.
We have a preschool curriculum adjusted for the ages of the children. All the children study the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, and sizes. Science and math concepts are a part of the regular instructions. The children are engaged in at least one table activity each day, such as an art project or an academic paper. They learn to relate to each other through play. They also learn manners and proper ways to interact with other children and their teachers.
We have chapel twice a month during the school year and music class with a special music teacher; participate in Vacation Bible School one week in the summer months. We have the fire puppets; a veterinarian; a postman; a pilot and a dentist come to the center to talk with the children during the year. We have other programs that celebrate special days, and our parents are always invited to join us.
The Graham Road UM Child Care Center follows the Fairfax County Schools' closing schedule in the event of bad weather. Specifically, this means that if Fairfax County Schools announce a one-hour delay, the Center will not open until 8:00 AM. If Fairfax County Schools announce a two-hour delay, the Center will not open until 9:00 AM. Whenever Fairfax County Schools close because of inclement weather, the Center will also close on the same schedule. It will be important to check with the radio and television stations for up-to-date information on delays and closing of Fairfax County Schools.
We keep our tuition fees low: $185.00 for five days; $173.00 for four full days; and $158 for three full days.
